Ministries
Parish School of Religion (PSR)
Having faith is important. Sharing faith also is important. It is so true that we have the faith of our fathers (and mothers, of course). Faith is handed down like love for favorite food is handed down from generation to generation. We experience our faith first in our family and in the Parish School of Religion leading them to the reception of the sacraments of the Church. Our Diocesan policy requires for the reception of any sacrament children should be in the PSR classes at least for one year. Our PSR usually begins at the beginning of the month of September. Parents are invited to come forward to register the names of their children in the proper form provided by the PSR Coordinator.
Our PSR classes are on Sundays from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
Altar Server Ministry
Our altar servers do a great ministry to the community while serving at the Holy Mass. They offer service to God and the worshipping community by helping the priest during Mass. Altar servers assist the Priest at the Altar for all weekend, and Holy Days of obligation. The ministry of altar serving requires dedication and the appropriate reverence for the sacred articles and solemnity of the liturgy. Both adults and children are encouraged to participate. It is important that servers be active participants in the liturgy by active listening, singing, and praying with the entire assembly. Training will be provided. Please contact our PSR Coordinator, Clair Pipp, through our parish office by calling: 573-729-4291.
Lector Ministry
Readers (Lectors) serve at the weekend, weekday, and Holy Day Masses. The readers proclaim the first and second readings from Sacred Scripture. Candidates must have received all the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation). They also assist with the Prayers of the Faithful during the Mass. Training will be provided in English. Please contact our Liturgical Coordinator, Melanie Ziske (English), by calling: 573-247-5644.
Ministry of Hospitality
We offer our members the opportunity to share their gifts in hospitality by serving as Greeters and Ushers during our weekend Masses. They are entrusted with promoting a sense of welcoming. Ministers of Hospitality minister to the entire community in a very active way by creating a welcoming atmosphere at each Mass. Please contact our Chairperson of the Hospitality committee, Nancy Moenster, through our parish office by calling: 573-729-4291.
Music Ministry
Our Music Director at Sacred Heart is Cathy Williams, and at Christ the King, Bunker, is Jodi Stacy. People who would like to be a part of this ministry are encouraged to call the Music Directors through the parish office at 573-729-4291.
Food Pantry Ministry
For assistance with food and grocery, contact Connie Wohlrab through the parish office at 573-729-4291.
Scripture Study Ministry
On every Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the Dent addition, and weather permitting, we sit outside for the scripture study. Vespers will follow in the church. The sharing will be enriched if you are able to read the Sunday scripture passages ahead of time.
Councils
The Parish Pastoral Council
The Parish Pastoral Council’s role is to join the pastor in “dreaming” what the parish is called to become and developing a plan to make that dream a reality. The pastoral plan will reflect what Pope Francis refers to as a “missionary option, that is, a missionary impulse capable of transforming everything, so that the Church’s customs, ways of doing things, times and schedules, language and structures can be suitably channeled for the evangelization of today’s world rather than for her self-preservation.”

Finance Council
In order to aid the pastor in the administration of parish goods, the Code of Canon Law (1983) calls for the establishment of finance councils in each parish (canon 537). Such councils are regulated both by the universal law of the Church and diocesan policy. The Finance Council, along with the pastor, shall exercise oversight over all finances relating to the parish, all parish groups or organizations and any programs conducted in the name of the parish and enjoying its tax exemption. The pastor and Finance Council also act as the liaison with the Diocesan Finance Office regarding parish investments.
